My wife has a special way of dropping hints. For the sake of this entry, we’ll call it ‘charm’.
Earlier last week, she approached me enthusiastically with a postcard-sized mailer. “Look!” she exclaimed. It was an offer from American Express offering ‘preferred card members’ (the suckers that use the Card more frequently than others) a $50 price cut for any full-priced Coach handbag at the new, conveniently located Coach store. “Nice,” I reply, and place it back on her desk. When she walked back in the office to pick up the conversation, she picked it up off of her desk and handed it back to me. “I saw it,” I state. She put it on my desk. I picked it up and handed it back to her. “You don’t want to lose this, honey.” “I gave it to you,” she states, with what we’ll continue to call a ‘charming’ look. “For what?” I ask. “To use, idiot”.
Roger that.
Since my wife and I have been together, I’ve learned far too much about handbags, as she has an affinity for them. Is anyone else aware of how much those things cost? When I first found out about her handbag habit, I wondered (aloud) why the hell she spent so much money on a dumb bag. She went on to explain the quality of a good bag, the trends, the brand, those knock-offs are made in a sweatshop in Bangladesh and plenty of other traits that constitute a desirable handbag. I tried to explain the principles of basic math, and how she could get 10 bags for what she paid for one. She used her aforementioned charm to explain that a great bag can pull a look together, and why would she want to do that with a cheap, shitty bag?
Again, Roger that.
We were starting to speak each other’s language. To her, a bag was a key piece for a great look. To me, wheels are a key piece to a great look. If we’ve met, either in person or virtually, you’ve heard me say that “wheels and stance are everything”. They are. Remember that.
What does this post have to do with Valentine’s Day? Make it easy for your Valentine…Pick out the wheels you want on your car, and sell it to her like a handbag. “It’ll pull the look together!” “It’s the quality!” “They’re made in America” “It’s cheaper than buying a whole new car, honey!” “It’s like shoes for the car!”
Be prepared to reciprocate, but rest assured, you’ll come out ahead.
Happy Valentine’s Day-
Jason and Melanie
